EOSS-351/352/353 Evergreen HS, Westminster HS, & Golden HS Flight - Recap

On Saturday, December 2, 2023 three 1500g balloons were launched from Deer Trail Colorado, carrying payloads from three Denver area high schools.

  • EOSS-351 - Evergreen High School
    • Lauched at 7:00am
    • Burst at 67,355 feet
    • Landed at 39.7350, -103.2912 (0.3 mi south of HW 36 near CR Y, west of Anton, Colorado)
  • EOSS-352 - Westminster High School and one student payload from Golden High School
    • Launched at 7:23am
    • Burst at 72,421 feet
    • Landed at 39.7375, -103.2233 (400 yards south of HW 36 near CR CC, immediately south of Anton, Colorado)
  • EOSS-353 -  Golden Hiigh School
    • Launched at 7:43am
    • Burst at 72,438 feet
    • Landed at 39.7448, -103.1515 (400 yards north of CR 12 between CR FF and CR GG, east of Anton, Colorado).

All teams were able to observe the parachute landing of their respective payload string.

Original Announcement: 

Revision C shows that the payloads will be carried on either two Heavy or three Lite balloons, depending on the cloud cover. The school payloads are separated as follows:

  • EOSS-351 Heavy -- Golden High School
  • EOSS-352 Heavy -- Evergreen High School & Westminster High School
  • EOSS-351 Lite -- Evergreen High School
  • EOSS-352 Lite -- Westminster High School
  • EOSS-353 Lite -- Golden High School.

Two 3000g balloons, or four 1500g balloons carrying student-built payloads from STEM, Aerospace Engineering, and Engineering classes at local High Schools.

  • Rocky Mountain Wide Network – Talk Group 700 - Rocky Mountain Ham Radio has approval to the use "Wide" for flight operations.
  • Central Colorado Regional Network – Talk Group 720 - On occasion, EOSS may use the Central Colorado Regional Network (Talk Group 720).
