During a normal EOSS flight we have some type of Automatic Position Reporting System (APRS) payload on board. It is always listed on the Flight Announcement Page. Be sure to check there to find out which payload is airborne for any particular flight.
You can track the flight of the balloon LIVE via the internet. One proviso here, regardless of the links below, check the flight announcement page for the call sign of the APRS package. I may have updated that page and forgotten to make the appropriate changes here. So, just use common sense in substituting the "real" call sign for one of those in the links below.
We usually downlink the position information on a non-APRS frequency to ensure minimal disruption to our telemetry gathering process. However, one of our local members has built a "cross frequency" repeater that takes the signal from the 2 meter payload, either on 144.340 MHz or 147.555 MHz and copies it over to the National APRS frequency of 144.390 MHz. Once it makes it into the Denver APRS system it jumps the igate and goes "online".
You can view this position data by going to one of the APRS Internet servers.
The Balloon Position Report page makes APRS balloon position data available to the FAA in near real-time.
This report page is also available from the www.wxqa.com web page.
Very nice Google Maps APRS tracking tool.
Go to the EOSS Findu Query Page
Findu.com has become a very valuable asset to the APRS community. Their internet based position system is essential to each EOSS flight.
If you want to get an idea of what a flight might look like before launch you might view how the system displays my home APRS system as the target. I've placed my callsign in this link as an example. Click on it and or the NexRad plot link below it and you'll see the latest packet position report for my station as reported to the igate:

During an EOSS flight we either use the RMRL's Cross Band Repeater. The associated callsign for that payload is WWYX (no SSID) and you can get a position report for that payload by entering:

This is an experimental video feed and will almost certainly be down when you visit this page. However, at some point in the future we may attempt to add live video of our launches.
